In 1985 he graduated from the Belarusian State Institute of Art and Theatre (Arts and Crafts Department).
Since 1986 till 1992 - the art editor of publishing house "Belarus".
Since 1992 he lectures at Belarusian State Academy of Arts.
Since 2010 - Rector of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. Doctor of Art Criticism. Honorary Member of Russian Academy of Arts. Member of Belarusian Union of Artists and Belarusian Union of Designers, member of National Union "Photo Art". Chairman of expert art commission of Special President Fund for Talented Youth Support. Chairman of National Art Council on monumental and decorative art. Permanent member of jury of Republican contest "Art of Book".
Participant of projects «Guide Appolonia - Art contemporaine de l'Europe - central und oriental» of European Council (1998) and «Osteuropaprogramm 1996/97 der Kunstakademie Münster».
Author of books: "Belarusian book illustrations 1960-1990s" (2001), "Belarusian painting 1920 -1970s" (2006), "Belarusian Art of Book of XX century" (2007), a few monographs, over 200 scientific and critical articles.
Participated in conference “Eurovisionen. From Cultural Network to Politics” (Berlin, Germany, 2004), in the 2nd Forum of Creative and Scientific Intellectuals of CIS (Almaty, Kazakhstan, 2007), was an Honored Guest and moderator of the sections "Art, Architecture and Design" and "Art Education" of the 3d Forum of Creative and Scientific Intellectuals of CIS (Kishinev, Moldova, 2009), participated in the 4th Forum of Creative and Scientific Intellectuals of CIS (Moscow, Russia, 2010). Participated in the First Congress of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus (2007); World Forum of Intercultural Dialogue (Baku, Azerbaijan, 2011), International Congress "Culture as a resource for modernization" (Ulyanovsk, Russia, 2011).
Since 1995 - the curator and participant of art exhibitions in Belarus and abroad. The curator of the exhibition "Artists of modern Belarus" (Pierre Cardin Centre, Paris, 2002). In 2002 he participated in the 8th Baltic Triennial of International Art in Vilnius (Lithuania). The head of Belarusian delegation at Prague Quadrennial of Scenography and Theatre Architecture (the Czech Republic, 2007). The curator of the exhibition “belart.by Young artists of Belarus” in Moscow (Russia, 2010). The curator of the Pavilion of the Republic of Belarus at the 54th Venice Biennale (2011).
Winner of the Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus in sphere of art critic (2001). Awarded with Honorary Diploma (2005) and award pin of Belarusian Ministry of Culture (2007), Honorary Diploma of Belarusian National Academy of Sciences (2009), Medal "For contribution to progress of art" of Belarusian Union of Artists. Was awarded with Gratitude of Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for personal contribution to progress of international cooperation and strengthening of authority of Belarus (2011).
As artist he works in sphere of photography, photo and graphic, illustration, design, poster art. He was awarded with diplomas of contest "Art of Book" (1986, 1988, 1990). His works are in funds of various museums, public organizations and in private collections.
